I really like the style you chose to render him in but the color choice makes him appear injured (ex. his cheek in combination with his jaw and throat which look bruised). The redness of his nose gives the idea that he may have been crying. He also appears stoic - firm set jaw and an almost icy stare.

Either way regardless of "story" the painting tells...you did it well.
